Are you the next Spielberg??

For budding film makers the Gothenburg International Film Festival is a dream.  Hundreds of movies over a two week period, and a chance to get on the ladder to success. Many films have had their debut at the Gothenburg Film Festival and then gone on to global success…  it’s truly become the “rookie’s favourite” festival, and rightly so. The festivals equivalent of an oscar is the “Dragon Award”. A nifty wee statue presented to winners at the closing ceremony.

During the course of the Gothenburg Film Festival the whole town comes alive with movie buffs, directors, actors, enthusiasts, movie parties, and much more.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY… last year saw the debut of a new award – the Dragon Award for New Talent. This is a short film competition, and is purely based online!  This means anyone with a 10 minute film can enter!  The competition was a roaring success last year, and the competition is open until the 31st December 2010, so if you or anyone you know has a film making friend, tell them this is their chance to be the next Spielberg or Scorcese….!   The best thing about the prize is obviously the merit and accolade that comes with the award, but of course the winner gets flown to Gothenburg, Sweden to collect his booty at the closing ceremony.

Sh*tty Gothenburg! 24 rubbish piles in 24 minutes!

I decided to walk to work with my camera today. The walk takes exactly 24 minutes and 42 seconds, at a brisk pace. As a bit of an experiment I thought I would take a photo of each pile of shit / rubbish / scrap I could find… the results were staggering – see below. 24 photos in 24 minutes!

Ciggies, beer cans, plastic coffee cups, beer tins, bottles… you name it, it was scattered all over the place… and this is walking through one of the nicer areas of town.

My beloved Gothenburg need not look like this! Why is it so tough to use the f*cking rubbish bins! Then it dawned on me that a lot of the bins were brimming over with disposable barbecues, spilling out at the seams with plastic bags full of rubbish. So maybe, the answer is more bins…. however, I urge you – citizens of Göteborg – to go into www.go-refill.se and mark areas where you think new bins are most required!

DO IT NOW! www.go-refill.se

Skit i Göteborg!
